"Shirley Sykes is a dedicated mental health consultant who is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. With a strong foundation in the field, Shirley's professional journey began with six years of honorable service in the U.S. Army as a Human Intelligence Collector. During her military experience, she cultivated essential values such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage, which continue to guide her approach to mental health consulting.
Throughout her career, Shirley has found great fulfillment in providing compassionate and effective mental health services to clients facing various challenges, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, PTSD, and other mental health diagnoses. Her expertise extends to individual, group, and family consulting, where she fosters an environment that encourages individuals to externalize their issues rather than internalize them. By facilitating this separation between the individual and the problem, Shirley enables her clients to realize their role as part of the solution, rather than perceiving themselves as the problem.
Central to Shirley's approach is the belief that clients must understand their inherent resilience and capacity for growth in overcoming trauma and negative emotions. Guided by the principles of Narrative theory, she empowers her clients by emphasizing the socially constructed nature of reality. By recognizing the influence of language in shaping our perceptions and experiences, Shirley supports individuals in organizing and maintaining their reality through the power of storytelling. Furthermore, Shirley embraces the understanding that there is no objective reality or absolute truth. This recognition allows her to help clients reframe their life challenges in a more positive perspective and find new meaning in their lives. By assisting individuals in understanding the narrative they are crafting, Shirley enables them to reclaim agency, break down problems into manageable components, and embark on a transformative journey towards personal growth and well-being.
In her role as a mental health consultant, Shirley Sykes is committed to providing empathetic support and guiding her clients towards resilience, self-discovery, and positive change. With her expertise, compassion, and dedication, she is instrumental in helping individuals overcome obstacles and embrace a more fulfilling and empowered life journey"
